Former borough manager Marius Russ Russo will be remembered in the borough’s Fourth of July ad book this year. When Mayor James France asked for approval for council to spend $100 to cover the cost of a tribute to honor Russo in the book, the borough engineer, Sande Walton, of NDI Engineering, offered to cover the expense.
“I’ve known Russ since 1970,” Walton said. “I’ll take the ad. I’ll give you the money. Soldier on with the Fourth of July. It’s a great parade.”
Russo died in January and was remembered at last month’s meeting when Councilman William Callahan motioned the new council chambers, when completed, be dedicated to Russo in recognition of his many years of dedicated service to the borough. France announced the first meeting of the 2013 Fourth of July Parade committee will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in borough hall, Lexington Avenue.
“Everyone is welcome,” France said. “More participation is needed.”
In other business, council approved issuing free sidewalk paving repair permits during April, May and June. Council President George Bobnak suggested council members take a street and conduct sidewalk inspections throughout the community and recommend sidewalk blocks in need of repair. |
